28 goals for Kessel-Lo

In the spring, the citizens' panel, together with experts, set priorities for Kessel-Lo. They gave direction to the desired future image of the public domain around three themes: meeting, displacement and climate robustness. As part of those priorities, Kesselaars submitted 842 ideas about their ideal streets, squares and neighbourhoods. From this, the citizens' panel, together with experts, determined objectives for the Kessel-Lo of the future.

The objectives form the basis for the further course of the process. In addition, a consultancy will use them as input for a mobility plan. In the autumn, all Kesselaars will once again have the opportunity to enter into a dialogue about that plan.

The citizen panel wants Kessel-Lo to be primarily a residential environment, where greenery and quality of life/comfort are paramount. That future is based on 28 objectives, linked to the 10 priorities.

On busy roads, separate traffic flows from weak road users

On busy roads, separating pedestrians and cyclists from motorized traffic with higher curbs and green strips.

On busy roads, working out an alternative, car-free route for pedestrians and cyclists.

On narrow, busy roads, reducing space for parked cars in favour of paths for cyclists and pedestrians.

Commit to shared mobility hubs

Shared bikes and cars can be left at other shared mobility hubs than where they were picked up.

Creating shared mobility hubs with regular bus connections at peripheral car parks along the main access roads of Kessel-Lo.

Developing fares so that disadvantaged groups also use shared mobility.

Put more effort into exchanges between cultures and generations

Creating pleasant and green places to stay with benches in streets.

When creating spatial plans, bring together buildings and places used by different generations and cultures.

Make child-oriented "play streets" into " neighborhood streets".

Supporting organizations and neighborhoods to engage target groups in organized activities.

Maximise local traffic (versus through traffic) and segregate traffic flows

One-way streets to keep through traffic out of residential areas.

Discouraging traffic by designing the street as a residential environment rather than a traffic environment.

More attention to pedestrians and their distinction from cyclists

Fully reallocating available space for pedestrians in the first place, then cyclists, then public transport and only then passenger cars.

Constructing sidewalks wide and obstacle-free.
